Again, Tactical Krav Maga, Krav Maga & Commando Krav Maga?

Which would you do? and why?

Commando krav maga (judging by videos) has too much grappling, which i dnt believe could be pulled off during the process of adrenaline dump, but so many people have a very high opinion of CKM, why is this?

Any responses would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

  1. Neither !  Join a real martial arts like BJJ

  2. None i'd do MMa and work out dirty tactics myself.

suburbanites go gaga over the military defence styles but the fact is they are not that good, nor or they meant to be.

Anything the military teaches is designed to be standard, easy, quickly taught and easily learned by a class full of people.

for example a special forces combat medic cannot do brain surgery. A ranger sniper cannot outshoot an olympic shooter, and the world's best krav maga guy gets wiped against a UFC champion.

Sorry that's just the way it goes.

The average guy is really better off learning his boxing, kickboxing, BJJ etc. himself.

In fact that's what we tell soldiers after they do our military martial arts.If you want to get really good, get your asses to an MMa class twice a week.

  3. CKM or any art cant be learned by videos, it has to be one of those in class and doing kinds of things.  I have resisted the CKM instructors course because I like the way I have changed some things.  Some of the grabbing is distasteful but that is what close quarters can be all about, as well as Jiu Jitsu or many other arts.

Try a few classes at the American school, one of the instructors I know is a BJJ black belt so he incorporates BJJ and Kali (knife fighting) in his classes.  I've seen a lot of hot girls in his classes.

As far a Military fighting systems go, well, in my country we start training at 14, in pre-army, so it is not so much what we can teach as to whom we can teach it all to.  My hand to hand course was done in 90 days (very long days), 20 months total training time before I was deployed.

In the end, pick the body that feels right to you, take a few classes see if it works for you and don't get frustrated.  I go to an MMA school monthly to teach weapons disarmament to the BJJ and MT guys, at first they find some of it distasteful, but they quickly realize that it's not for points, it is for survival.

The BJJ guys seem to do best in weapons disarmament class, which to a great extent is about grabbing, moving and twisting, controlling the weapon.

What you pull off in an adrenaline dump is muscle memory, what is in muscle memory depends on you.  Much of knife and gun defense depends on being very up close and personal with your attacker, and not in a Dr. Phil kind of way,  Much of the grabbing/grappling can seem complicated until you do it a hundreds of times and it becomes a part of you.

A wise old man once said to me "..as long as you can hear the gun shot you are still alive", he was right, that is why he is an old man.

MMA stuff is for points, Krav Maga and Combat SAMBO are for survival.    There are no shortcuts when an assailant pulls a weapon on you. A good stiff jab just won't do it.  I have actually applied some of the techniques I have learned through the Wu form to modern weaponry defense, but it is all up close and personal.

Much of what we do in Combat SAMBO or Krav Maga is illegal in MMA, we survive battlefield/streets, not padded venue like an octagon floor or BJJ mat.

I guess that's why I get a monthly invitation to go to an MMA gym, for the purpose of teaching weapons disarmament and survival tactics.

  4. How much of a difference is there, besides the names?

  5. oh my god these guy dont know what they are talking.....krav maga is one of the most effective ways to learn self defense, because it is not a sport. its used to survive a real life situation, where a guy is not going to roundhouse kick you he is going to pull a knife on you or even a gun, this is why it has been used and still is being used by one of the toughest special forces in the world the Israeli. i would give anything to learn it, i cant find any place where i live or even close where they teach the real art of krav maga. the person above me is right though it is meant to learn fairly fast, and ofcourse an mma fighter would probably kick a krav maga users *** in the ring, because it is a sport, if you used krav maga in a mma or ufc fight you would get disqualified...people learn it to kill or survive being killed, i would do tactical krav maga but i woudlnt mind learning any form of krav maga

  6. lol wow..what a loser lmao
