  1. 1)

    x - 2y = 1

    2y = x - 1

    y = (x - 1)/2

    2)

    2/3(y) + a = a + b

    2y/3 = a - a + b

    2y/3 = b

    2y = 3b

    y = 3b/2

    3)

    x + 5 = 2y - 6

    x = 2y - 6 - 5

    x = 2y - 11

    4)

    1/4(x) = 3y + 3

    x/4 = 3y + 3

    x = 4(3y + 3)

    x = 4*3y + 4*3

    x = 12y + 12

    5)

    5x - 9 = 2/3(y)

    2y/3 = 5x - 9

    2y = 3(5x - 9)

    y = (15x - 27)/2

  2. i will do a few to get you started..

    x-2y=1

    isolate y on one side:

    -2y=1-x

    divide through by -2:

    y=x/2-1/2

    2/3 y +a=a+b

    2/3 y =b

    y=3b/2

  3. 1) y = (x-1) / 2

    2) y = (3/2)b

    3) x = 2y - 11

    4) x = 12y + 12

    5) y = (15x-27) / 2

    You should use more parentheses.  Some of those were ambiguous, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

  4. 1) y = (x-1)/2

    2) y = 3b/2

    3) x = 2y-11

    4) x = 12y+12

    5) y = (15x-27)/2

  5. remember to treat both sides equally

    x-2y =1       add 2y

    x = 1+ 2y    subtract 1

    x-1 = 2y   divide by 2

    (x-1) /2 = y

    2/3 y +a = a + b     subtract a

    2/3 y = b               multiply by 3y

    2=   3by              divide by 3b

    2/3b = y

    that should get you started
