  1. Belfast is fuc'ked it seriously is. Try for an agency, Grafton's and Industrial temps don't want locals so much anymore but avoid hays, its facing the opera house in the Anglo Irish bank building.  Kennedy's down may street are so-so. I have skills the length of royal avenue and its like nobody wants to know me anymore.  Honestly if i knew where there was jobs going I'd be applying for them myself but at the minute I'm stuck with pond scum agencies.  I feel like tying a breeze block round my neck and diving into the lagan.

Edit just had a brainstrom, labbrokes has bought over Mc granaghans on the andytown road but i dont know if they bought the whole chain  they might be looking staff and paddy powers has opened up on the falls.  So at least the credit crunch hasn't killed peoples desperation for a bit of hope in vain.

  2. When I was a student looking for shop work in Belfast I found this places very useful:

Belfast Telegraph: You probably already check this job section on a friday out but its worth keeping a close eye on the job advertisments there.

Job Center:  i actually found the job center in downtown belfast really helpful. A lot of the big companies (like the Hilton Hotel  or Burton groups) don't even advertise sometimes. They fill all their posts through people inquiring at the job center.

Employment agencies: Reed is pretty good. Anytime I was stuck for work they always found me something.

There is also a employment newspaper that you can pick up at news agents.  I think its around a pound a copy...but sometimes stores will advertise in there as it is cheaper than advertising in the Belfast Telegraph.

I know in my day all the hotels were constantly looking for staff, try asking at the reception of the Europa or Hilton if they have any positions.  Although they aren't shops they are great places to work.

    Good luck!

  3. You just have to keep trying.

If you only want to work in a shop then you are narrowing your field.

Why not apply for jobs in various walks of life. You have to stay positive and widen your search.
