Aston Villa striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Agbonlahor-c14288 has brushed aside transfer speculation that linked him with a reunion with former manager Martin O’Neill, at Sunderland.
The 25-year old Nigerian-Scotsman had spent four years under Martin O’Neill during his reign as Aston Villa manager. It was suggested that the player was keen on linking up with his former boss at the Stadium of Light. Agbonlahor however dismissed such rumours
by saying that he wants to focus on his career under new boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 up front.
Agbonlahor is currently Aston Villa’s longest serving player and is keen on staying at his boyhood club for as long as he is wanted. He currently has three years remaining on his contract and wishes to see them out at Villa Park.
The 25-year old striker is currently the team’s interim captain. He is a product of Aston Villa’s academy and has achieved three senior caps for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national team.
Though he primarily operates as a striker, Agbonlahor can also play as a winger on the left side of the pitch and is known for his ferocious pace, strength and tenacity.
The 5ft 11in striker has managed 216 appearances for Aston Villa and has scored 53 goals for them. Speaking to the English media, the player laughed off all transfer speculation and said:
“I’m an Aston Villa player, it’s my home club, I love the club and as long as I’m contracted to the club then I’ll continue to play for them until I get told otherwise. Sunderland’s very far away anyway.”
Agbonlahor believes that these rumours are the result of the managerial change at Aston Villa and because of the form he enjoyed under former manager O’Neill.
“I think when you’ve played with a manager before, especially one as good as Martin O’Neill, then you are going to be linked with him,” said Agbonlahor.
“And when a new manager comes in here then people think straight away that you’re not going to be involved. For me it’s just speculation and nobody knows whether it’s true or it’s not true. But I haven’t heard anything about it.”
