I have two friends who live in the UK. Both are 17 years of age. I need to know if they can fly from the UK to the US WITHOUT adult supervision or if they need to be 18 before they can.

  1. They will need an adult to check them in at the airport but they can travel alone.  Over the age of 13 they are considered a 'young person travelling alone' so should be fine.  The airline may require that somebody pick them up at the other end though.  It is best to check with the airline.

  2. Yes, i think but they need adult supervision at the airport, so an adult has to bring them there, then tell a guard that they'll fly alone, as unaccompanied minors. Either that or they can just fly alone. I'm not sure about the UK laws.

  3. They may fly without adult supervision, but should have a written statement by their parents authorizing the travel. Otherwise they may run into problems at customs, being considered for runaways.

  4. yes.  no.

  5. If they have valid passports they can fly without any adult supervision, just as long as they have their parents permission.  They will not require, or get, supervision in the airport as, at that age, they are not considered unaccompanied minors.
