Age for Flight School?

I just turned fourteen years old and want to start flight training. I am torn two ways because some people say it is way too early, and some say it is the perfect age? How many lessons per month do you suggest at my age, and even ground school?

  1. ha ha As much as i hate to say, i agree with avio.

I'm 14 yrs old as well and i used to be in flight school. I say used to because i had to drop out due to lack of effort in school and sports. I overbooked myself, so i dropped it because school is more important in the long run.

I would say to focus on your grades...........Right now I'm restarting flight lessons........because its summer vacation.

I have about one lesson a month both in the air with my instructor and ground school.

Everyone is different. I can't focus in school and sports if I'm over run with flight school.

I'd wait one more year and then go for flying lessons, that way you don't end up in the position i was in.

    Good Luck!

  2. The people who say 14 is too early are correct.  If you are talented, you will be wasting your time, because you have three years before you can test for a certificate.

Work on your grades in school and develop your study skills and social skills.  Read everything you can get your hands on about aviation and aircraft.  Start taking flight lessons around your 17th birthday.

That is the right answer.  The people who answer that 14 is the right age also tend to be 14, themselves, and they don't know.

  3. 14 is pretty good. start easy and slow, don't need to cram yourself with notions just yet. get initiated and when your 15, get a little more involved and really get into it.
