Age for driving?

i here a lot of adults saying that the age for driving should be raised.where i live the age is 16. what do you think? should the age be raised?

16 isnt bad if the person is responsible, where I lived if your grades fell your license was suspended until your grade came back up

I think that the age that you begin to drive depends on how mature you are.many adults say 16 and thats fine with me but if you aren't very mature you shouldn't drive for about a year or so.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated.

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. I

n fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

In north dakota the driving age is 14. If the kid is a good driver and has good grades, i don't see why they shouldn't be able to drive.

Philippine Laew states that drivers under age 18 means from 15 or what age it is ) must apply as a student PERMIT TO Drive or if you are a first time registrant i larnd how to drive at age 16 then drove a four wheel at age 20 since i got my permanent renewable license when i turned 18.

California changed to 18, I like it.  I wouldnt want my kid dying young in a car accident.

The age in England is 17 and I think that is about right I wouldn't want it to be any younger and maybe should be 18 as I dont think you really learn to drive until after you have passed your test and you are out there on your own. It is a very worrying time for parents of new drivers

I think it would be sensible to set the age for drivers according to the car engine size. So to keep teenagers safer while they gain experience, restrict the HP of their cars so they are less likely to kill themselves or others through taking unnecessary chances while still inexperienced.

By the same token, there should be stringent tests for the elderly if they wish to carry on driving after the age of 70ish.

I used to drive a sports car, but I've had my fling and now drive a standard saloon.

Alberta, You can get your learners at 14.  Drivers at 16.  I think it's fine.  I do agree with no night driving for the first year that some places have.  Teens in cars are easily distracted.
