Question:

Age of chicks?

I have 3 day old chicks that I bought from an agrigultural show. I asked about the breed and age of the chicks but the lay selling them didn’t know. They are day olds and my guess is they are Isa Browns and a black Australorp cross.

Two have almost all of their wing feathers and are starting to get their tail feathers. One looks to be about 2 or 3 day younger and has half her wing feathers and no tail feathers (also slightly smaller).

How old do you think they would be?

  1. My best guess is approximately 2-3 weeks.

  2. About three or two weeks. Good lucks! ( :

  3. Usually, you can see the start of their secondary feathers on their wings around a week old.  Before that, they have what we refer to as the little "nubbie" wings.  Very cute, but they don't last for long.

If they have their flight feathers, the birds are at least a week old.  If they are getting secondary feathers elsewhere, they are probably at least 2-3 weeks old, but this does vary somewhat by breed.

  4. about 2 weeks
