Agent: Chris Andersen receiving interest in the free agency – NBA News
Chris Andersen is still looking for a new home after the Denver Nuggets used their amnesty clause on him at the end of last season.
The veteran power forward is on the lookout for a new contract, and his agent is busy talking with team in the hopes of landing a deal for him. Andersen has been a regular member of the Nuggets roster over the past 10 years, and
only missed from 2004 to 2008. He is known for his unorthodox hairstyle, his tattoos and the energy he brings to the game.
Andersen’s agent recently revealed that he has received offers from a few teams for the services of the veteran big man. Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com has reported:
“Chris Andersen has received some offers from NBA teams. He does have a favourite team he wants to play for, but his reps won’t say just yet. Chris Andersen’s offers have been from the $1.2 to $5 million range per season.”
Despite the fact that Andersen is a valuable person to have on the roster, it is unlikely that any team will be willing to pay him $5 million per season for his services. Not only is he old, he also does not possess the skills
to justify that salary.
Last season, Andersen made $4.6 million with the Denver Nuggets, after which they amnestied him. In such a situation, getting $5 million per year seems unlikely and looks more like a statement from the agent to get the teams going.
Andersen averaged 5.3 points, 1.4 blocks and 4.6 rebounds per game last season in 15.2 minutes of playing time per game. He will be a good addition to the bench of any team, and brings a level of energy and excitement along with
him on the court.
However, it is the contract price that will be the subject of negotiations as no team will want to go something like $5 million for a backup like Andersen, particularly this late in the summer when teams have spent most of their
cap space recruiting talent. Andersen will most likely wait for some time and then go with the team that puts forward the maximum offer.
