Agent Tom Condon 100 per cent Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning will not retire – NFL News
Tom Condon, the agent of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, is hundred per cent that his client will not retire and will play football for more seasons to come irrespective to the question of his comeback to Colts or otherwise.
His assurance about the continuation of Manning’s football career comes a couple of days after he had claimed that Peyton would be flexible in talks with his employer, Jim Irsay, who has the powers for final call on the issue.
An emphasis on the players’ desire to continue playing at Colts was focal point of the agent’s flexibility statement, who had also hinted at the possibility of reaching of an agreement between the two parties on the possible extension in the deadline of
$28 million bonus payment that the player under his deal terms is due by March 08, 2012.
Condon’s latest statement ruling out the possibility of Peyton Manning retiring from the professional league in the near future has cleared the situation of uncertainty around his football prospects in the face of his neck surgery and a rather delayed recovery.
"I would think that we're at 100 percent," Condon said. "He's not going to retire. And he absolutely is determined to play, and he's been making a good deal of improvement, and I expect him to be back on the football field again."
The agent’s assurance coincides with the Peyton’s clearance by his doctor for playing football in the future without any problem.
Peyton Manning missed the entire 2011 National Football League (NFL) season due to his neck surgery, which was his third in last 19 months, and there were concerns about his ability to recover to his full strength and play football again.
All those fears had come in the perspective of the uncertainly around his return to Colts due to an ongoing phase of lull maintained by his employer, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, and along with his increasing impossibility of returning to his team certain quarters
have worries about his football future.
The respective statements from his agent and doctor are expected to contribute to some extent in clearing the situation for him, casting an impact on his confidence and morale.
Irsay in the meantime is reported to be planning a meeting with the player in the near future, as he had hinted before the Super Bowl, and the discussion on his bonus option is expected to dominate the agenda.
The owner has to decide if he is going to make the payment by the deadline to validate the player’s deal for four full years or otherwise release him from the contractual bindings, and in case the player goes free agency he has a number of teams as potential
future football destinations.
There is a possibility that both parties agree on an extension in the bonus deadline, leaving the matter of payment in pending.
