Agent Tom Condon says Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning not on radar of another team – NFL News
The agent of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Tom Condon, has denied the reports claiming that the player was in contact with number of teams while looking at them as his prospective destinations on the possibility of going free agency by Colts owner, Jim
Irsay.
Irsay, who matters the most in the final say on the future of Manning, has to decide if he pays the player the optional bonus of $28 million by the deadline of March 08, 2012, and extend his deal for another four years.
If the owner decides against the payment of bonus and let the player go free agency, a number of teams have been reported to be in touch with the player to sign him off Colts’ waiver.
The agent denied if the player was being pursued by any other team on the National Football League (NFL) and that the player was already in contact with any of them.
"There is nobody on the radar," Condon said. "We haven't talked to anyone. He's under contact with the Colts, and if they want to exercise the option, they do. If they have to make a business decision and (Irsay) doesn't then that's that."
He said that the final say on the payment of bonus lies with the owner and it is yet to see if he is going to make it straightaway by the deadline or will seek to negotiate an extension to it.
The agent refrained from commenting on the reports pointing out that a divorce from Colts is awaiting the player and a final decision over it has already been made by the team management.
"I don't know if this is a divorce because in a divorce you've got some unplanned separation," Condon said. "There is no dispute here. Everybody planned for exactly where we are in regards to the contract.”
Condon added that the player wanted to play for Colts for the sake of love he has for the city of Indianapolis and the team’s fans. He also understands it is a business and the truth about ruthless nature of the business, he added.
He went on to say that he did not expect arising of a possibility for negotiating of an extension in deadline of the bonus payment. It is unlikely to happen and if it does the player could technically agree to an extension, he further said.
Peyton Manning had signed a four-year deal worth $90 million with Colts in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season. An optional bonus of $28 million is a part of the deal and the player is due to be paid the amount of March 8, 2012.
His team has the option of paying the bonus and endorse validity of the contract for four years or decide otherwise. In case they go against the payment, the player has option of going free agency and reaching a deal with any other team around the league.
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have already expressed their interests for pursuing the player on his becoming free agency.
Almost all the stakeholders of the Peyton Manning issue have not spoken about the possibilities on the future of Manning with or without Colts, and therefore the matter remains wide open to all solutions.
