Agent assures Baron Davis will be involved with the New York Knicks next season – NBA Update
According to Baron Davis’s agent, Todd Ramasar, the player will be involved with the New York Knicks in the coming season in some capacity despite not being offered a new contract.
The decision from the Knicks management to not offer Davis a new contract comes from the fact that he is likely to miss out the whole season as he recovers from a career threatening knee injury. However the Knicks have not completely
shut the door on the restricted free agent as they have allowed him to undergo physical therapy with the team training staff.
They have also offered him to be involved with the team during the coming season in a mentorship role.
"He'll still be around the team and could kind of help some of the younger guys just through his experience," Ramasar said. "The Knicks have been wonderful in terms of just extending support to Baron, whether it be through obviously
his physical therapy or just having him involved with the organization going forward. He really loves that team and that organization has done an excellent job with Baron, and Baron feels like that's home. He really, really enjoyed last season with the Knicks."
Davis may not be asked to sit courtside during game but his role would come forth during practices as he would be asked to mentor the Knicks players with the experience he has gained over his 15 year career.
As far as the progress on his knee injury is concerned, Ramasar confirmed that according to his last medical checkup in July, Davis is making good progress.
He is presently able to walk around while wearing a knee brace and with the help of crutches. Ramasar also confirmed that the main desire for Davis at the moment is to make a return and no matter how critical the injury may be,
there is no stopping his client.
Davis had previously returned from a left ACL tear during his time in UCLA and will look to make a full recovery from this injury as well. However he may have to wait a while before he is declared fully fit as this injury is far
more serious than what he went through in college.
