How does having an Agent work exactly? You know like do you pay them regularly or do they just get a cut of what you make?

  1. Since we are in the business/insurance category, I assume you mean insurance broker.

We are paid a commission for placing business with insurance companies, so it would be paid by them out of the total premiums you pay.

  2. There are many different types of 'agents'. but for the most part, they get paid a certain percent of what you earn...generally 15%  It is in their best intrest to make sure you are working, so they promote you as best as they can.  If you make nothing, then they make nothing.  15% of 0=0

this applies to all types of agents,

Literary agent, a person who represents a writer

    Theatrical agent

    Booking agent

Sports agent, a professional who represents an athlete

Talent agent, a person who finds jobs for actors, models, and other people in various entertainment businesses.

Press agent, publicist who acts on behalf of a client on all matters involving public relations

If you are talking about travel or real estste agents, they get a commision based on what they sell. A press agent gets a regular salary, or a lump sum  if they are working for a short period of time.
