The Danish International also felt that his side desperately needs to improve on their finishing, and bemoaned a handful of chances that they squandered during the game.
The Reds looked sharp in different spells against the Gunners, but failed to crack open their opponent’s defence. Despite dominating the proceedings for a good chunk of the match, they were seconded by Arsene Wenger’s men, who ran away with all three points.
The loss only served to pile further miseries for Brendan Rodgers, who took over the reins of Anfield in June; with an aim of helping the club finish inside the top-four.
The Northern Irishman is currently facing the heat for failing to sign a striker as a replacement for Andy Carroll this summer.
Nonetheless, Agger spoke out in favour of his manager, insisting that there was no short-cut to the club’s re-building process. He also believed that the Ulsterman’s ideas were gradually seeping into the entire unit, and results will start pouring in as
the season progresses.
“Nothing is easy to fix. Not in football and not in life. But we are working on the manager’s ideas every single day, so hopefully we can get better and better during the course of the season,” he told the reporters.
Commenting on the Arsenal game, the 27-year old pinned the blame of their defeat to the inability of the players to score goals. He said that a number of players – including himself – were guilty of squandering easy chances, and conceded both the goals in
a poor manner.
“It wasn’t two players, it was three, four, five, six players who had chances, including myself. The chances are there and that’s the most important thing. But we all need to start taking them... We gifted them two easy goals and didn’t score any ourselves.
You can’t win a game if you do that,” he added.
Liverpool will next play Sunderland on the 15th of September at the Stadium of Light.
