ok, i'm in a bit of a pickle... i have a budgie and he has a very shy/timid nature and he always wants to play with my cockatiel. the problem is, is that my cockatiel is very aggressive and violent towards the poor budgie when they get close. now, is there anyway to make the cockatiel less aggressive? because i really want the two to get along and be friends... thanks if anyone could help with the matter!

  1. As an owner of both, on and off for at least 39 years (wow, I hadn't counted the years till now!!) I can tell you that just because you want them to get along doesn't mean that they want to get along,  and that is dependent on their breed, gender and personality.  So, my recommendation, from years, or shall I say decades, of experience: don't force the issue.  Most people don't have the time, or take the time, to train their birds, so that's the first problem.  But the more important issue is that some birds just won't  get along, so, don't push the issue, no matter how much you want it to be.  God Bless you.

  2. If you see this then keep them away from each other. the cockatiel has already made up his mind not to bond with the parakeet.

  3. NO.

Don't put your budgie and cockatiel together. The cockatiel won't be able to help itself, it's just going to bash the budgie. It's in its nature. Get another budgie to keep the budgie company.

  4. sometimes different species just wont get along, its nothing to do with the indivual birds or anything, they just dont interact well in the wild and in home, goodluck! check out www.parrotcentral.net for more good parrot info
