Aggressive hitting strategy desired by new Texas Rangers’ hitting Coach, Thad Bosley
The new hitting coach at the Texas Rangers’ spring training camp in Arizona is preaching a follow up to Clint Hurdle’s batting philosophy.
The veteran, Thad Bosley, desires an aggressive approach to hitting with the Texans and his approach is reminiscent of a famous ideology thrown on the platform by author Michael Lewis in his book, Moneyball.
The strategy suggested in the book talks of taking the most opportunities against the first two pitchers in the game series. Bosley used to be the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics in 2003.
At that time, general manager, Billy Beane, and, Lewis collaborated on the famous book. The new coach in Arlington wants to get the most advantage out of the club strategy, which is bringing an aggressive offense to the field.
The strategy that has been rampant at the club for the past season has been very simple and streamlined. Manager, Ron Washington, has pressed for a clean approach for the hitters. The strategy outlined before Bosley’s appointment specified getting a hitter
to second base with no out while sending another hitter to the third base with just one out.
The strategy has been cemented in the club’s approach and Bosley is pushing players like Josh Hamilton towards the more aggressive format.
"I've talked to Josh Hamilton about it", Bosley said. "There were times when he was just pushing the ball to left field, when he could have been driving it out of the park. We believe that none of our hitters up to this point have had a career year. We see
a tremendous upside. We know what Josh Hamilton can do.
There is a special way to go forth with a hitting approach, according to Bosley.
"I believe you've got to know the pitcher, and get a pitch you can drive. If you get a 0-0 pitch you can drive, you've got to jump on it".
