Agincourt Fancies a win in A5 race at Crayford
The stage was set for some riveting greyhound racing today at Crayford’s Greyhound Track. The dogs raced to some amazing results in the 14 races on the schedule, much to the delight of the racing fans in attendance.
The afternoon races began with a 380m A5 race at 14:08. Before the race, the odds makers staked Eddies Karma as the 704 favourite to win, but Agincourt Fancy (5-2) sprinted 5 lengths ahead of him to capture the victory with a finish of 23.84. Coming out of trap six, Agincourt Fancy moved quickly away from the rest of the pack, and kept the lead. Pre-race favourite, Eddies Karma did not have enough karma to finish first, but managed a respectable second-place finish in 24.24
Copari (4-1) finished the race in third place with a time of 24.50. This put him 3¼ lengths out of the number two position. Mounting a fourth-place finish was Altamount Bert (7-1), whose finishing time of 24.62 separated him from third place by 1½ lengths.
Rounding out the six-dog pack was Heaven Sent (6-1, fifth place), and Belgrave Slick (7-2, sixth place). Heaven Sent needed hope and a prayer to finish first, but got neither one with his 24.78 finish. He was 2 lengths behind the fourth-place finisher. Belgrave Slick finished 1¾ lengths behind fifth place with a time of 24.92.
The 540m S6 race at 14:27 featured a close finish for the top two spots. Only a head separated first place from second, with Langley Goldcard looking golden with the win in 35.17, with an early pace from trap five.
Despite the great finish, Langley Goldcard was not the favourite to win this race. That honour was bestowed upon Inishowen Billy, who carried 9-4 odds into this race. His time of 35.18 was good enough to earn him a second-place finish. Had he not crowded fifth, the victory would have been his.
Behind Inishowen Billy by a shoulder’s length was Roo Bell (5-2), whose finishing time of 35.19 earned him the third spot in the race. Firhouse Lucky’s (4-1) luck ran out when he bumped third and crowded fifth. As a result, he placed fourth in 35.31. This placed him 1½ lengths out of the third position.
Fifth place went to Such Is Life (4-1), who finished the race 1¼ lengths behind Firhouse Lucky in 35.41. Fawkham Barney (8-1) was the last-place finisher, completing the race in 35.57, which was 2 lengths behind fifth place.
Crayford Greyhound Track will host another exciting afternoon of racing on Thursday, September 9. The 14-race card gets under way with an A5 race at 14:18.
