Born on December 29, 1988 in the city of Kiskunhalas, Agnes Szavay is a professional tennis player from Hungary. The twenty-one year old Agnes is Hungary’s highest ranked tennis contender. She also received a WTA Newcomer award of the Year back in 2007.
The Hungarian received her career high ranking of World number thirteen back in 2008 during the month of April.
As far as her performance this season is concerned, the professional tennis ace from Hungary started the year by playing at the Brisbane International tennis tournament where she successfully reached the second round after defeating Peng Shuai in straight
sets. In the third round clash, Szavay, however, lost at the hands of Daniela Hantuchova in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3 6-1.
At the Sydney International tennis competition, the Wolkersdorf resident triumphed in her opening round clash after getting the better of Jelena Jankovic in a total of three sets. The final match score was 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. In the second round of the tournament,
Agnes, however, was brushed aside by Aravane Rezai in straight sets. She ended the month at the 2010 Australian Open tennis championship reaching the round two again, defeating Stephanie Dubois before falling at the hands of her sixteen seeded tennis foe,
Li Na in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Agnes next competed at the 2010 Open GDF Suez as her fourth competition of the season. She did well to reach her first quarter final round of the season. The Hungarian outlasted Olga Govortsova and Petra Martic before losing to Melanie Oudin in a three setter
clash. The final match score was 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The right handed Agnes next participated at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL, held in Mexico. She was seeded number two to win the title and performed quite well to make her way into the quarter final, defeating Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova as well as Renata Voracova
before retiring in her clash against Polona Hercog in the quarters as a result of adductor strain. She also took part in the doubles championship along with Gisela Dulko, however, they were toppled in the opening round by Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani in a
two setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3.
At the Monterrey Open tennis competition 2010, Agnes was seeded fifth to win the title. She got the better of her German tennis foe, Julia Gorges in her opening round match in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. In the second
round clash, the professional tennis player from Hungary got past Anna-Lena Gronefeld in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-1. In the quarters, Agnes at last was defeated by her fourth seeded tennis opponent, Dominika Cibulkova
in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
She next played at the 2010 BNP Paribas Open where Agnes couldn’t win her third round clash as she was taken down by Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets.
At the grass court season, Szavay took part in the 2010 AEGON International tennis competition where the Hungarian was dismissed by Marion Bartoli in the second round clash. At the grass court Grand Slam tennis tournament this season in London, Agnes Szavay
was dispatched off by Ekaterina Makarova in her opening round clash in a total of two sets.
The final match score was 6-4 7-6(2). However, the world number thirty-five followed it up with back-to-back trophies in 2010 GDF SUEZ Grand Prix beating Alexandra Dulgheru in the semis 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 and a replica of previous season’s final thrashing out
Patty Schnyder 6-2, 6-4 and in 2010 ECM Prague Open tennis competition breaking Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
