Agnieszka Radwanska aiming for ‘double glory’ at the London Olympics 2012 – Tennis News
Agnieszka Radwanska is one of the most esteemed Polish sports women. Currently she is a strong contender for the Olympic gold medal against the belligerent Belarusian, Victoria Azarenka, who is topping the ranking charts with 8800 points.
The right-handed tennis star is determined to face all the odds, as she has a strong command on the game with her classic ground strokes. Radwanska was the Wimbledon junior champion in the year 2005. She is also the first Polish player to reach the Grand Slam finals after 75 years.
Radwanska started the year with smashing hits and securing three WTA championship titles. Her performance seemed spotless in the 2012 season but she lost her first ever Wimbledon final to five-time champion, Serena Williams, at 1-6, 7-5, 2-6.
Despite of the 23-year-old’s determination and spirit, Serena Williams is currently eyeing at the London Olympics gold. Her game performance has improved tremendously after the comeback in the year 2011. Formally, Serena has also achieved two Olympic gold medals, but those were in doubles category. Williams’ high probability of winning has increased after she secured the Charleston, Madrid and Wimbledon titles, resultantly entering the Top-Four in the women’s rankings.
However, fans become double minded about the fact that will Radwanska be able to counter the impeccable strength of Williams? Critics believe that if she overcomes her health issues, Radwanska can get the better of the world number four. Many bettors have also lost their hope in the young star after Wimbledon.
The other competitors include the former Wimbledon winner in 2004, Maria Sharapova. The Russian beauty is in very close competition with Radwanska, holding on the number three spot at the moment and aiming to reclaim the top spot at the Olympics. Many bettors have predicted Maria to compete for the silver and bronze medal.
Despite of the challenges lay in front of her; the Polish player was quarter finalist last year and has more experience than many female’s in the game. She has also been a popular choice earlier this year. Radwanska takes lead due to her fantastic abilities to strike the ball and resultantly intimidating the other players.
According to Wojciech Fibak, “Radwanska is a natural mover who understands the geometry of the court".
The young star has an exceptional speed and hence has a fantastic tendency to score points at will. Her victory at London Olympic can surely make her career boom for the subsequent years to come.
