Agnieszka Radwanska beats Karolina Pliskova in round two – Malaysian Open 2012
Top seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, held her nerve to power down the 19-years-old Czech, Karolina Pliskova, in the second round clash of the BMW Malaysian Open tournament. The match was ended in straight sets but not before the
5th ranked Pole was tested rigorously for 70 minutes. Radwanska won the match 6-4, 6-4.
Both players had never faced each other before so they were definitely going to outbreak early to take the initial lead. Pliskova was the lucky competitor who took the Pole with surprise by winning an early breakpoint in the fourth
game. She lead the scores 3-1 at that stage.
It seemed like the Czech was going to register an emphatic upset but the Pole fought back into the contest; winning the break back in the seventh game and levelling the scores at 4-4. The momentum swung back into the favour of
the top seed who looked the better player of the two lately. She broke serve again in the ninth game and held her serve to bag the opening set of the match.
Radwanska dumped Pliskova in the opening game of the second set and registered an early breakpoint. She lead the scores 2-0 in the match and carried the momentum further. The Czech did well to stay in the contest and kept in hunt
for the breakpoint. She smacked 14 aces in the match, seven in each set; shows a lot about her aggression.
The Pole could only struck two aces in the match and was somewhat tamed a bit considering her class. She was put on check during the final game of the match but she did well to rise up to the task and hold her serve to name the
match.
Nothing should be taken away from Pliskova who played extremely well but couldn’t manage to defeat the hot favourite contestant of the tournament. She is still in the tournament in the doubles category teaming up with her twin
sister Kristyna and won the second round match later in the day.
Agnieszka Radwanska sets up a date with the Taiwanese qualifier, Su-Wei Hsieh, in the quarter-final of the tournament.
