Agnieszka Radwanska beats younger sister Urszula in the first round – Apia International Sydney 2012
Pole sisters, Agnieszka Radwanska and Urszula Radwanska, went head-to-head for the fourth time their professional career during the Apia International Sydney tournament on Monday. The seventh seed, Agnieszka, eased past her younger
sister in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, in the one-sided encounter that lasted for just 54 minutes. The contest was played on hard courts at
the NSW Tennis Centre in Sydney, Australia and elder sister tripled her head-to-head lead by winning this contest.
Urszula flabbergasted Agnieszka in their first encounter during Barclays Dubai Tennis Camps, when she ousted 22-years-old Pole 6-4, 6-3. The elder sisters plonked Urszula in AEGON International 2009, US Open 2011 and then again
in this encounter in Apia Sydney International to take the head-to-head lead of 3-1. The turnover in the arena was extremely good as people wanted to see both sisters in action against one another. It is always a fascinating experience to witness siblings
battling it out at the courts to overpower one another.
Agnieszka started the proceedings is great style, opening up the scoring with an ace and then continued to hammer her opponent to all parts of the court. She was on top of her game and capitalised on sister’s rusty footwork to
belt a number of winners down the line. Seventh seed continued to carry her momentum in the contest and ousted her sister in the second game to clinch the first break.
One-sided show continued as seventh seed Pole held her serve and broke one again to take the score to 4-0 in the first set. There was no coming back from that stage because Urszula was looking down and out with no intention to
improvise and catch her competitor by surprise. Agnieszka stumbled a bit in the fifth game with some careless shot making but kept her focus in the game to keep the upper hand.
Urszula was assisted to break in the fifth game but that was a mere consolation, as her sister bounced back and broke her serve to take 5-1 lead. With a do or die situation at hands, Urszula tried his luck with a couple of good
rallies but her form didn’t allow her to take advantage of her opponent’s good positioning. She lost the last game of the first set and needed to strike back hard in the second with a complete different game plan in order to overpower the other Pole contestant.
Agnieszka started the second set in same fashion; broke in the first game and then held her serve to take 2-0 lead. She continued her aggression and broke in succession in the fifth and seventh game to seal the second round spot
against German Andrea Petkovic.
