Agnieszka Radwanska blazes through Galina Voskoboeva in the third round – Australian Open 2012
Polish number one, Agnieszka Radwanska, pounced over the Kazakh tennis ace, Galina Voskoboeva, in straight sets at the Australian Open 2012 on Friday. She clobbered a 6-2, 6-2 score line against the Kazakh veteran to advance into the round of 16 at this
first of the four Grand Slam event taking place on the hard courts in Melbourne, Australia.
The eighth seeded Pole maintained his winning record against Voskoboeva after earning a straight set victory in an hour and six minutes long marathon. She not only extended the lead in the head-to-head series by 2-0 against the Kazakh but also booked a spot
in the fourth round.
Radwanska self-assuredly entered the Margaret Court Arena and held her serve in the first game to take the initial lead. After Voskoboeva held her serve in the fourth game, the 22-year-old unleashed flurry of slices to wipe out the last four games in a row
and sealed the set by winning six games to two.
The Pole warded off all six breakpoints she came across and converted two out of three break chances to her advantage. She formulated a much better first serve share of 78 percent as compared to the Kazakh’s 50 percent and clinched an exceptional 16 out
of 21 points on it.
The Higher ranked star carried her winning ways in the following set and pulled out the victory in a similar manner. She stroke out the final four games on the trot and registered a similar score line in 32 minutes.
The high flying Pole kept all of her serves without facing any obstacle and cashed in both break opportunities to prevail. She produced a slightly lower first serve share this time but won an incredible 12 out of 14 points on it.
World number eight will next face the German seed, Julia Goerges, who overpowered the Italian competitor, Romina Oprandi, after bouncing back from a set down to set-up this date.
World number one, Caroline Wozniacki, will join the Pole in the fourth round. She dumped the 31st seed, Monica Niculescu, in straight sets in their third outing. The Danish number one lost her serve twice but broke Niculescu’s serve six times,
sealing the deal with a 6-2, 6-2 success in 76 minutes.
