Agnieszka Radwanska confirms her place in the WTA Championships – Tennis News
World number three, Agnieszka Radwanska, has qualified for this year’s season-ending Championships, it was announced by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
The TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships will be held at the Sinan Erdem Arena in Istanbul, Turkey from October 23-28. Top eight of the world’s best singles player and four doubles teams will participate in the final event of the
season.
Radwanska, who is having the best year of her career, was praised by WTA. Its Chairman and CEO, Stacey Allaster, stated that the Polish star is an incredible ambassador for the sport. Radwanska was voted the favourite most player
of tennis fans last year.
Announcing the Polish player’s qualification for the year end event, Allaster said, “Agnieszka is having the best year of her career by winning three WTA titles and earning a spot in the Wimbledon final. In addition to being an
admirable and inspiring champion, Aga is an amazing ambassador for women’s tennis and it comes as no surprise that she was voted as Fan Favourite last year.”
Radwanska has done brilliantly from the start of the season. Playing her first event of the year, she stunned the then world number one, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, in the quarter-finals but lost to Victoria Azarenka in the
semis of the Apia International Sydney.
The 23-year-old lost to Azarenka again in the quarter-finals of the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open. The Polish player defeated Julia Goerges in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships to capture
her first title of the year. Radwanska added two more titles to this season’s total, winning Sony Ericsson Open and Brussels Open.
Radwanska shared while commenting on her qualification for the WTA Championships, “I am looking forward to returning to Istanbul for the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships this year. This is a goal for every player at the start
of the season and I’m so happy to have made it. The Championships is the biggest WTA event of the year.”
The Polish star gave the best performance of her career at the Wimbledon Championships, where she finished as the runners up.
