World number 8, Agnieszka Radwanska, defeated the Argentine competitor, Paula Ormaechea, in the second round of the Australian Open, wrapping up victory at 6-3, 6-1. The contest was played in Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday.
The Argentine teenager was given a round of applause from the crowd for her courage to reach to the second round of the tournament. Youngsters making it to the elite platforms and reaching the advanced stages of the tournament is always a pleasant view for
any tennis fanatic.
The Pole was playing her first encounter with Ormaechea but she took no time at all to explore her game play and broke in the second game to take 2-0 lead upfront. A couple of aces earned her the successful serve game, which was
followed up with some thumping winners across the court; her lead cruised to 4-0 in quick succession. To her surprise, the teenager broke serve to reduce the trail.
Radwanska’s quick aggression eased a bit as both players settled in the atmosphere. The lead of two games was still intact for the Pole as he served to take three games by the end of the seventh game. No more serve breaks were
seen in the remaining games of the set and the Pole took the first set with no problem at all.
The second set was a display of complete domination from the Pole, as she commenced the proceedings with a breakthrough to her name. She doubled her lead in the next game and pushed the scores to 2-2. Both players hung on to their
serves in the next two games as the scores were pushed to 3-1. Ormaechea was hunting the serve break that would level the scores; concentration on breakpoint flawed her serves as she failed to perform the basics right; committed a double fault that was followed
up with dismal rallies.
The Pole sealed another break in the fifth game and held her serve to consolidate her position. Half hearted last serve game from the Argentine proved to be the final scenes for her in the Australian Open as she lost the set and
packed her bag to return to her homeland. Radwanska inches one step close to the Slam title.
