Agnieszka Radwanska destroys Vera Zvonareva to clinch title win – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Ninth seeded Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska clinched her second title of the season after doing away with fourth seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets in the title match of the 2011 Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan on
Saturday, 1st October.
Sailing through the title match, Radwanska took a mere seventy five minutes as she blasted past the higher ranked Russian with a simple 6-3, 6-2 win.
A favourite going into the match with a level head-to-head score with the Pole, Zvonareva came crashing down as her defence crumbled against the in-form Pole.
Zvonareva started the match on a high note as she broke Radwanska in the very first game to lead the score 1-0, extending it to 2-0 on her service next. However, Radwanska bounced back almost immediately as she broke back in the
fourth game after a successful service game to level the score at two games each. Holding the Russian to two games, Radwanska sped up to a 5-2 lead as she broke her opponent yet again in the sixth game. Winning on their respective serves, Radwanska served
out the set at 5-3 after only one deuce in the ninth game. Although Zvonareva fought to keep her hopes of a set victory alive, Radwanska proved to be a far better player as she clinched a 6-3 win in the first set.
Double faulting four times, Zvonareva practically handed over the set to Radwanska as she added her own marvellous 75 percent win to the mix, going one up in the set score.
Returning the favour from the first set, Radwanska broke the Russian serve in the very first game as she secured an early 2-0 lead, extending it to 4-1 a few games later.  A glimmer of hope for the Russian, as she broke Radwanska
in the sixth game, reducing the deficit. However, Radwanska immediately broke back to maintain her three game lead. Losing only two points in the eighth game, Radwanska forced a long forehand from Zvonareva to secure a 6-2 win, sealing her straight sets win.
This was Radwanska’s second title win of the year and her third straight win over Zvonareva. Coincidentally, the Pole has previously defeated the Russian in Carlsbad, earlier this year, to secure her second Premier level title.
