Agnieszka Radwanska eased past Yulia Putintseva to reach quarters – Dubai WTA 2013
Polish number one, Agnieszka Radwanska, trounced the Kazakhstani wild card entrant, Yulia Putintseva, in straight sets at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013 on Wednesday. She jolted down a 7-5, 6-3 victory against the Kazakh to power into the quarter-finals at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier event taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Seeded third in this event, Radwanska showed top notch performance to outfox the Kazakh. After stealing the show in almost two hours, Radwanska took lead in the head-to-head series by 1-0 against the 18-year-old and stayed on track to defend her title.
The jubilant Pole was quoted in a courtside interview after bagging the match:
"It's always tough playing someone you don't know, and also the first match of the week is always tricky. But even when I didn't play my best tennis today I was really fighting for every point, and I'm just happy I could come back in the first set and win it in two sets."
The defending champion, Radwanska reflected about the strong field at these Arabian comments, "Well it's always a bit of pressure, and obviously it's a strong tournament here. But every match I will have nothing to lose because I'm playing such good players now. Of course I'll do everything in my power to hold the trophy again at the end of the week and have the title."
After exchanging three breaks of serve, the Pole got the breakthrough in the last game and subsequently bagged the opener with a 7-5 win.
Ranked third in the world, Radwanska lifted her game in the proceeding set. She lost her serve in the third game but quickly snatched it back in the very next game. The Pole then remained focused and not only held her remaining serves but cashed in her second break chance in the eighth game, eventually clinching the set with a 6-3 score line.
Next up for Radwanska is the Czech number one, Petra Kvitova, who dumped the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, in straight sets to advance.
