Agnieszka Radwanska ends Garbine Muguruza Blanco cameo in the 4th round - Sony Ericsson Open 2012
World number four, Agnieszka Radwanska, finally ended the cameo of the Spanish wildcard entrant, Garbine Muguruza Blanco in the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open on Monday. She outplayed her in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 taking
just a fraction over 68 minutes.
She commenced the match with a thumping breakthrough in the opening game and carried her momentum to register another breakpoint that helped her to register a phenomenal lead of 4-0 upfront. Blanco didn’t disappoint the crowd;
fought back to break her opponent’s serve in the sixth game and decreased the trail to 4-3 in the meantime.
Radwanska was immensely talented to handle this onslaught from the Spaniard and sneaked away with a serve hold in the eighth game before registering another cracking breakthrough to ease away with a set lead. It was obviously not
an easy task to defeat the in-form Pole but the Spaniard was doing great on her part.
The 208th ranked Spaniard had won 26 points in the opening set but fell short of nine points that helped the Pole to sneak away with a first half show of the encounter. Both players saved one breakpoint each but the
Pole was much better in forcing her opponent down and converting three of her allotted breakpoints.
Another terrific start to the Pole gave her lead of 2-0 courtesy to a breakthrough in the second game. However, the Spanish coming starlet bounced back into the match, breaking her rival’s serve and levelling the scores at 2-2.
Both players registered serve holds before the Pole broke serve for the second time in the set and took lead of 4-2. It was the pivotal moment that dismantled the confidence of the 18-years-old Spaniard. Blanco was just able to
win one point in the following two games; gifting another breakthrough, set and the match to her opponent.
Agnieszka Radwanska marches on into the quarter-finals of the tournament with the help of this victory. The real test will be in the next round match when the Pole heads on to beat the former world number one, Venus Williams, who
looks in sublime touch on her comeback.
