Agnieszka Radwanska fends off Misaki Doi in 1st round – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Ninth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska comfortably fended off wildcard entrant Misaki Doi in the opening draw of the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011. The two took up the gauntlet on outdoor hard courts at Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan. Ninth seeded Pole Radwanska won with a double breadstick victory 6-1, 6-1 against Japanese Doi on Sunday the 25th of September.
Serving first, Radwanska got off on the wrong foot and was unable to win her first game as she was broken by Doi. However, Doi’s was unable to capitalize on the mini break as she too was broken immediately in the next game and both the players had successfully placed themselves on the score board.
The third game was an easy victory for Radwanska, who held her serve by smashing a cross court forehand swing and in the fourth game broke Doi to take a mini lead of 3-1. Radwanska only needed three more games to conquer the opening set.
As she won on her serve in the fifth game, she decided to break her adversary for the last time. By doing just that in the fifth game she was now two breaks and a game up. Serving for the set in the sixth game, she smashed an ace at 40-love and established a base for herself.
Radwanska was broken only once in the opening set and by capitalizing on three out of the seven break point opportunities, she was able to take a competitive edge over Doi. Doi, on the other hand, had committed three double faults and had lost the set with a difference of eleven fewer points than Radwanska’s.
With assertiveness in her game, she then went onto playing the second set. Opening the second set was Doi and in a reversal of fate, Radwanska capitalized on two early breaks; one in the first game and the other in the third to take a comfortable lead of 4-0 in the fourth game by holding her serve.
Doi was only able to secure one game for herself on her serve that too in the fifth game. After that there was no more hope for Doi as Radwanska did not let the Japanese make a comeback. The Pole held serve in the sixth and in the seventh crushed Doi by breaking her for the last time to secure a bread stick victory.
Agnieszka Radwanska was able to secure a double bread stick victory in just sixty six minutes to cruise into the second round of the event where she will be facing German Angelique Kerber, a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Serb Bojana Jovanovski.
