Agnieszka Radwanska is ready to take on Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final – Tennis News
Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska has announced that she is ready to take court against Serena Williams in the final of the Wimbledon Championships on Saturday.
Radwanska gave birth to doubts regarding her readiness for the final, as she excused WTA to take part in the pre-match press conference due to respiratory problems. The Polish star had also shortened her post match press conference
after beating Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in the semi-finals.
However, talking to the reporters on Saturday morning, Radwanska vowed that she would do anything to take the court against Serena and play at her best. The third seed said, "I will do whatever it takes to make sure I'm ready to
play the best I can."
Radwanska became the first player from her country to reach the final of a Grand Slam in the Open Era. Last time, a player from Poland reached the title match at a Major 75 years ago.
The Polish player knows that Serena is in to form and it would be difficult to beat her in this situation. However, she stated that she has nothing to lose and will try her best.
The 23-year-old said, "She's playing amazing tennis at the moment. I don't really have much to lose, so I'm going to try my best and we'll see."
Serena defeated the world number two, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(6) in the semi-finals. The American number one is bidding to win her fifth Wimbledon title in her seventh final at the All England Club.
The 13-time Grand Slam winner suffered a shocking first round loss at the hands of Virginie Razzano of Italy at the French Open last month. Serena said, "I have to go out there and win. Agnieszka has had a better year than I have.
She's been way more consistent than me. She's done really well, so she's ranked higher than me. She deserves to be. I have to go out there and fight for this. This is by no means going to be easy. Never, ever do I underestimate any opponent."
Serena is also in the final of the doubles event with her elder sister Venus Williams.
