Agnieszka Radwanska mows down Barbora Strycova in the 1stround – Bank of the West Classic 2011
Kicking off on the 25th of July 2011 was the first round of the Bank of the West Classic 2011 between the Polish, Agnieszka Radwanska and the Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova at the
Taube Family Tennis Center Stanford University, California. The Pole won the match in under sixty nine minutes in a run of the mill victory of 6-1, 6-2.
Contesting for the first time against each other both the players had immaculate precision and struck zero double faults, however, Radwanska served an ace in the far corner of the service box while her opponent wasn’t able to hit
a single ace. Her serve was an offensive weapon which gave her an upper hand. With a strong defence she bounced back everything that came its way; winning a total of eighty percent of her total return points in the set. She broke her opponent three times
and only allowed her opponent a single break point opportunity.
Barbora, on the other hand had performed poorly in not only her serve but also her return serve, winning a total of a meagre twenty percent in her total serve and below the par thirty eight percent in her total return points. Radwanska’s
commendable serve, exceptional return serve and defence, which did not falter played a crucial role in her winning the set.
After being beaten black and blue one would’ve expected Barbora to jump right back into the game, however, that was not how the events turned out. This time she served relatively better than the first set. She was not able to strike
an ace and instead her accuracy faltered and she struck one double fault all hitting the net. Mean while Radwanska too lacked accuracy and struck four double faults it seemed the ball was attracted to the net.
Radwanska was able to hit fifty nine percent of the first serve on target and won sixty one percent of her total return points. Due to a spot on defence she allowed only one break point opportunity and was able to capitalize on
three break point chances to her advantage. Barbora was no competition for the Pole and hence her total set points were ten more than that of Radwanska’s.
The 22-year-old, Agnieszka Radwanska achieved her career high singles ranking number 8 on the 22nd of February 2010 while her current ranking is world number 14. She now moves on ahead to play Kai-Chen Chang who ousted
local wildcard entrant Hilary Barte in the opening round.
