Agnieszka Radwanska needs to pull up a greater force to sustain her present rank – Tennis News
Ranked world number four in the WTA Rankings, Agnieszka Radwanska, has considerably dropped her world rankings as she was unable to sustain her former momentum. She has not even won a single Grand Slam title in 2012 and if she
intends to continue the same rank, she will have to build up more pace than usual.
She commenced the year at an average note and was unable to encounter the might of the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka. She received a straight sets defeat in the semi-finals of the Apia International held at the hard
courts of Sydney. In the Australian Open, the two contestants battled hard but the young Pole was unable retain her focus and bagged home a disappointing thrashing in the quarter-finals.
The right-hander improved her world rankings after her win in the Dubai Duty Free Championship. She sustained her grip on the game with her powerful serve precision and defeated even the more experienced professionals such as Jelena
Jankovic in a three-set match in the semi-finals. In the hard courts of Miami at the Sony Ericsson Open, she skilfully managed to outmuscle several challengers such Venus Williams, Marion Bartoli and finally the Russian beauty, Maria Sharapova.
Her game plan in the clay court season was satisfactory and she became an eminent part of the top favourite WTA players. At the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, she suffered a straight sets loss at the hands of Azarenka. She was the
top seeded challenger at the Brussels Open and pocketed away her victory after a remarkable performance in the tournament. At the French Open held at the hard courts of Paris, she faced a shocker at the hands of Svetlana Kuznetsova.
She was unable to stand the might of the 31-year-old American challenger, Serena Williams in the Wimbledon Championships. The right-hander Pole participated until the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup held at the hard courts of
Montreal. Radwanska was the top seeded contender at the Western and Southern Open held at the hard courts of Cincinnati. She was unable to preserve her pace and faced a straights sets loss at the hands of the Chinese senior, Na Li.
The 23-year old was the finalist at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo but bagged home a shock at the hands of the Russian professional, Nadia Petrova. In the China Open held at Beijing, she met the lower ranked Chinese for the
third time in the year but received a straight sets loss.
The Pole number one, Radwanska, really needs to regain her former focus if she intends to sustain world rankings.
