Agnieszka Radwanska ostracizes Christina McHale; advances into quarter-final – Mercury Open 2011
Kicking off on the 4th of August 2011 the 22 year old Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska battled it out for 60 minutes in the third round of 2011 Mercury Open at the La Costa Resort and Spa, Carlsbad, California. On Thursday
she managed to beat Christina McHale in a breadstick and bagel victory of 6-1, 6-0.
The first set of the match saw neither of the players smash an ace nor commit a double fault. The World No. 13 (Radwanska) hit seventy six percent of her first serves on the target, while, her opponent hit fifty seven percent.
However, McHale lost most of her serve points during the second serve, and thus, was only able to bag forty three percent while, Radwanska achieved an exceptional seventy two percent in her total service points.
The 22-year-old (Radwanska) not only had an exceptional serve but also an above average return of fifty seven percent in the set. Her defence was sturdy and she was able to save and win a hundred percent of her break points, while,
her opponent’s defence was weak and slipping away as she failed to save and win her break points.
Hence, she won the set with twice as many points as her opponents.
During the second set of the match neither of the players had smashed an ace. However, McHale’s accuracy had failed her and she committed two double faults out of which one hit the net while the other was a line fault. While, Radwanska
had perfected her serve and struck zero double faults along with, winning sixty four percent of her total service points.
The Polish was able to strike all her opponent’s serve and although, she only achieved a fifty seven percent of her first return, she clenched a walloping seventy three during her second return and hence, was able to a 64% in her
total return points. Whereas, The American (McHale) failed to return her opponent’s shots and barely attained a thirty six percent of her total return points.
The number 3 seed (Radwanska) was able to save all her break points and hence, did not allow a single break point to her opponent. However, her opponent managed to save only forty percent of her break points and availed none.
When all was said and done, Agnieszka Radwanska was a better player and took the lead on the score card during the second set which her opponent was not able to chase down.
She qualified into the quarter-final with minimum effort and will now be facing the Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.
