Agnieszka Radwanska ousts Sofia Arvidsson in 3rd round – China Open 2011
Eleventh seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska overpowered Swede Sofia Arvidsson in the third round of the China Open 2011. Both the players duelled on outdoor hard courts of National Tennis Center in Beijing, China for one hour and
eighteen minutes. The eleventh seeded Pole won in straight sets of 6-4, 6-2 against the Swede on the 6th of October 2011.
Radwanska had decided to open the initial set and she not only held her serve but was also fortunate to capitalize on an early break and placed herself on the scoreboard at 2-0. However, Arvidsson made a return in the third game
by breaking Radwanska and she reduced the deficit to 1-2. The players again broke each other back-to-back in the following two games and the scoreboard moved at 4-2 by the end of the sixth game.
Although, Arvidsson had tried her best to reduce the deficit, she was unable to do and eventually in the following two games the players again held serve but the difference between the score remained at 5-3. During the last two
games the players again broke each other but this time Radwanska had clogged the opening set with a 6-4 victory.
In the first set Radwanska had managed to win four out of nine breakpoints and although, she had only targeted fifty five percent of her first serve game, she was still able to accomplish 63 percent of the first serves won.
The second set of the match was again opened by Radwanska and this time she got off to a bad start as she was unable to hold her serve in the first game. Even though, the eleventh seeded Pole had endorsed a game to her adversary,
she was quick to break back immediately in the following game and equalized the score at 1-1.
During the following three games, Radwanska had utilized the serve-break-serve method to reel off with a lead of 4-1 by the end of the fifth game. The players again broke each other one after the other but Radwanska was leading
with five games whereas; Arvidsson had won only two games in total.
By the end of the seventh game the scoreboard had progressed at 5-2, and now Radwanska was looking to break her adversary for the last time to walk away with the set and the match. As Arvidsson double faulted on her second serve,
she gifted the set and the match to Radwanska, who secured a place in the quarterfinal.
