Agnieszka Radwanska ousts Sofia Arvidsson to clear round three - Western and Southern Open 2012
World number three, Agnieszka Radwanska, eased to a straight sets victory, 6-4, 6-3, over the 50th ranked Swede star, Sofia Arvidsson, in the second round of the Western and Southern Open on the eve of Wednesday.
Radwanska commented at the end of the match, "It was really hot out there, but I kind of prepared for that. I remember from last year that in Cincinnati it's very, very hot and humid. The first match is always the most difficult.
Every week we play on different surfaces with different balls and in different conditions. I'm just happy I won, especially in two sets, because of the heat. I hope to play better tomorrow."
She added, "I know I'm close, but I think it's still a little bit far from No.1. I'm just going to do everything in my power to be No.1, at least for a week!"
Radwanska commenced the battle with a serve hold and the series of breakthroughs ignited interest from the spectators
Four breakpoints were contested in succession that just rolled the set in favour of one player than the other but it all ended with a serve hold for Arvidsson and that levelled the scores at 3-3.
Another swap of breakpoints followed up and that pushed the scores to 4-4. However, the Pole starlet was able to hold serve for the second time in the set and managed to break serve again for the fourth time in the set to round
off the opening phase.
The start to the second set was very poor for the top seed Pole who lost her opening serve game and went down a trail of 0-2. However, she fought back with a breakthrough in the fourth game that levelled the scores 2-2.
A swap of breakpoints kept the scores together at 3-3. The Swede starlet looked set to make a comeback in the match but the serve hold after an intense battle for Radwanska lowered her chances and to her despair, she lost the breakpoint
in the ninth game that allowed Radwanska to serve for the match.
Next up for the Pole is the American booming starlet, Sloane Stephens.
