Agnieszka Radwanska outfoxes Elena Vesnina in the 1st round – Rogers Cup 2011
In 1 hour, 31 minutes and 39 seconds of play, the Pole Agnieszka Radwanska won in straight sets against the Russian Elena Vesnina at the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto, Canada during the first draw of the Rogers Cup
2011.
For the first time earlier this year, the two met on the clay courts of BNL D’Italia, Rome, Italy where the Russian Vesnina had bounced back from a set down to achieve a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory and was leading the head-to-head with
a 1-0. Radwanska had been praying to get a chance so that she could avenge her loss and finally on the 9th of August 2011 her prayers were answered.
Starting the set was the Russian Vesnina who was just not herself and struck 4 double faults and smashed an ace, while, her opponent had extreme exactitude and she struck zero double faults but smashed zero aces during the set.
Both the players had many double faults but Radwanska was able to save 50% of her break points and broke her opponent 2 times out of the 6 chances she faced, whereas, the Russian was able to bag one break point in comparison to
her opponent.
The Pole had a powerful serve which one her 67% of the total service points, against her opponent who could muster only an average 49% of her total service points. In addition with an above average return, the 22-year-old Pole,
Radwanska gained an upper hand because of the extra break point, the Russian Vesnina ,lost the set with 19 points fewer than her Polish adversary.
After the first set, Radwanska wasn’t to give up the match to her opponent and stuck it out; she perfected her accuracy and struck zero line faults and smashed 3 aces consecutively and one during the set but to the crowds dismay
Vesnina was putting too much pressure and instead of enjoying her game she lost her assertive touch and with an average performance in her serve, she was unable to score and mustered only 46% of the total service points, against the Pole who had 14% more points.
With new boost in her performance Radwanska clenched a commendable 54% in her return shots, while her opponent was only able to win 40% of her total returns. This time Radwanska had gone in deep and saved a 100% of her break points

As Radwanska bagged this set with a total set score of 57%, she restricted her Russian opponent to only a single point in the entire set; hence, she sealed the set with a skilful 6-1 win.
The world number 12 Agnieszka Radwanska outwitted the Russian Elena Vesnina and managed to qualify into the second round of the Rogers Cup 2011.
