Agnieszka Radwanska overpowers Christina McHale to earn a semi-final berth – Qatar Total Open 2012
World number six, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, had no real trouble in ousting the 38th ranked American opponent, Christina McHale, in the quarter-final round of the Qatar Total Open on Friday night. The 22-year-old
fourth seed took mere 61 minutes of play to overwhelm the American teenager in twin sets, 6-1, 6-1, powering her way into the semi-finals of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Tour event in Doha, Qatar.
Enjoying her career-best form at the present, Radwanska exhibited another display of sheer dominance and class to oust the 19-year-old American underdog in the most authoritative manner. It appeared a total mismatch between the
two as McHale appeared in no sort of form at all. She looked rusty and dejected right from the beginning, spraying strokes all over the court and mistiming her shots on most occasions.
The belligerent world number six nailed her second victory over McHale, replicating her last year’s win in Carlsbad, when she devastated the American on her home soil, 6-1, 6-0, to march into the quarter-finals of the WTA International
event. Radwanska continued her sublime run of form in Doha and spared just two games for her opponent before dumping her in the second set of the match.
"A lot of the games were very tight, actually," Radwanska said in her post match reviews, "I knew I had to be ready today because Christina has been playing very well this week."
Radwanska dropped just seven points on her first serve, clinching 19 out of 26 and nailed six out of seven break points in the matchup to come out as the dominant winner. She was very aggressive throughout the matchup and raided
the net a number of times to converted juicy volleys into cross-court winners. The Pole competitor suffered just on break point in the entire matchup but kept her basics right to keep things under control all the way. A total of 88 points were played in the
match, with Radwanska winning 56 and McHale getting hold of just 32 to finish on the losing side.
A mammoth challenge awaits Radwanska in the next round, when she will go against the world number one, Victoria Azarenka, for earning a title shot. The mighty Belarusian is unbeaten this season so far and hasn’t lost a single set
en route to semi-finals. She outclassed the unseeded Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer, 6-0, 6-4, in the quarter-final round and is looking extremely good for bagging her third championship title of the year at the Qatar Total Open.
