Agnieszka Radwanska powers down Alison Van Uytvanck in the quarter-final – Brussels Open 2012
Belligerent world number three, Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, exhibited yet another display of sheer dominance and class to route the 18-year-old bleak local opponent, Alison Van Uytvanck, in the quarter-final competition of the
Brussels Open on Thursday. The top seed Pole contender took just 70 minutes of play to settle the one-sided affair at 6-2, 6-1, to reach the semi-final of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour event.
The local crowd at the Royal Primerose Tennis Club in Brussels, Belgium, were in to support their 18-year-old starlet but they knew that she was no match for the world number three. Radwanska spared merely three games in the entire
matchup for Van Uytvanck and breezed past her with the utmost ease to claim a semi-final berth. The 450th ranked Belgian was absolutely manhandled by the 23-year-old Pole, ending the contest to the dismay of her home crowd.
It was Radwanska’s 34th victory of the running season, inching her one step closer to her third WTA championship title this year. The Brussels Open is the final stop before the year’s only clay court Grand Slam event,
the Roland Garros French Open and a title win her will be extremely pivotal for Radwanska for her preparations for the Major tournament’s campaign. The Pole number one is in terrific form at the moment and no doubt she is the hot favourite for winning the
Brussels title this week.
Radwanska proved her superiority over her bleak opponent in every segment of the game and cruised through the both sets to register a comprehensive victory. She kept the games short and professional, belting assertive winners on
regularity and converting five out of 10 break opportunities to dump the Belgian wildcard youngster. Van Uytvanck frittered away six priceless break opportunities in the matchup and cashed in just one chance to finish on the losing side in the end.
Up next for the top seed Pole is the eighth seed Estonian tennis ace, Kaia Kanepi, in the semi-final round of the Brussels Open. Kanepi formulated a 6-3, 6-1, win over the unseeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, in the quarter-final
draw on Thursday.
"I grew up on clay. I love playing on clay anytime. You get time to build the points up, and I like that," Kanepi said about her semi-final clash with Radwanska. "We've played before and she's a very good player. I just want to
play well and take my chances when they come."
These two seeded opponents will fight for a title shot on Friday afternoon.
