Agnieszka Radwanska receives a straight sets upset by Li Na – Rogers Cup 2012
Second seeded Agnieszka Radwanska received a straight sets upset of, 2-6, 1-6, by the 10th seeded Chinese, Li Na, in the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters on Saturday. The Polish tennis ace could
not fight back the strength of the Chinese veteran and wrapped her dream to win the contest in just 70 minutes.
Since the start of the match, Radwanska failed to attain the lead and never equalized the scores. Li successfully hit a couple of aces in the initial set and had a higher first serve rate of 71 percent. She showed a remarkable
rate of saving the break points. The Chinese nailed her breakthrough and clinched all the remaining four games in row, securing the opener at 6-2.
Radwanska exhibited a relatively poor performance than her usual, just managing to pull up two games in the initial set.
Li was off to a flying start in the second set and jolted down a 6-1 win in style. Radwanska showed zero resistance to her opponent, indicating her low morale. Her return rate was as low as 50 percent in the second half of
the match, giving the Chinese tennis ace an easy victory.
In a post match interview, Radwanska told the media, “It is a little bit too much, two singles in one day. I think the first match cost me a lot of power. It was very hot conditions out there. Two hours later, I was playing
my second match. Of course, she had the same situation. She was just playing too good. I really could not do anything.”
The world number three, Radwanska, had contested against Samantha Stosur in the semi-finals of the 2011 Rogers Cup but couldn’t go past the round of eight in this year’s edition of the coveted Masters Series event. Due to
the withdrawal of the leading tennis champions from the tournament, this loss does not affect her world rankings. Nonetheless, if she intends to sustain her top rankings she will have to gear-up her pace for the future.
