Agnieszka Radwanska routines through Lesia Tsurenko in the second round – Brussels Open 2012
Lucky loser from Ukraine, Lesia Tsurenko, didn’t last longer in the main rounds of the Brussels Open and was brutally annihilated at the hands of the world number three, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the second round on Wednesday. The
top seed Pole went through Tsurenko in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, taking barely 56 minutes of play to reach the quarter-final round of the clay court event in Brussels, Belgium.
Radwanska carried on her belligerent of form of the running season and registered her 33rd victory of the year. The 23-year-old pole spared just one game for Tsurenko in the entire matchup to drive the 105th
ranked Ukrainian out of the tournament. The top seed contender is eyeing for her third WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) championship title in Brussels and her impactful start in the second round hints her aggressive intents very clearly. The Brussels Open
is a vital stop in the WTA event, as the second Grand Slam event of the year, Roland Garros French Open, about to kick off next week.
The third ranked Pole delivered 66 per cent of her first serve on target and dropped barely three points on it, clinching 20 out of 23 points en route to victory. She nailed five out of nine break points in the match, whilst Tsurenko
utterly failed to event craft a single break opportunity in the whole matchup. The Ukrainian lucky loser kept spilling out unforced errors, including five critical double faults, to finish on the losing side in the end.
"It was a very good match for me. Everything was working," Radwanska said after her second round win over Tsurenko. "It's always tough to play your first round so I'm very happy I had a quick one. To reach my 10th quarterfinal
of the year is just great. I'm also very happy to get some good results and practice on clay courts right before a Grand Slam."
The world number three has already declared that her target is the French Open gold in the near future and a title win at Brussels can be extremely pivotal in her preparations for the clay court Grand Slam campaign. Radwanska will
face off against the local wildcard entrant Alison van Uytvanck in the quarter-final round of the Brussels Open later this week. The Belgian outsmarted Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round battle of the tournament on Wednesday.
