Agnieszka Radwanska sails past Greta Arn in round one – ASB Classic 2013
Agnieszka Radwanska had a good warm-up session prior to her first encounter of the new season that took place at Auckland. She dispatched the 114th ranked Hungarian professional, Greta Arn, in just 75 minutes; posting
straight sets score line of 6-2, 6-2. It was a positive start to the new season for the fourth ranked Pole star who is aiming to break a Grand Slam duck at the Australian Open.
Arn lost the first two serve games of the match and went down to trail of 0-4. She struggled to fight her way back; did construct a path to a breakpoint in the sixth game but couldn’t capitalize on it. The top seed Pole held her
serve in the eighth game to close out the opening set at the ASB Classic event.
Already scoring two victories against the 33-year-old Hungarian in the past, it was not difficult for the 23-year-old Pole to convert the allotted opportunities in her favour. She broke her opponent’s serve in the opening game
of the second set as well but couldn’t protect it with a serve hold that equalized the scores at 1-1.
Both players comfortably held her serve in the following two games that pushed the scores to 2-2. However, the following four games were completely marshalled at the will of the Pole superstar who clasped two breakpoints in a row
to round off the first contest of the new season.
Crowd witnessed four aces in the entire contest; shared with the ratio 3:1 to Radwanska. The main factor that led to the downfall of Arn was the number of faults (8) compared to her rival (2). Radwanska is scheduled to lock horns
against the 47th ranked Romanian star, Simona Halep, who is eager to break into the Top-20 players of the world by the midst of the new season.
So, it will be a tough contest considering the stakes. The top seed Pole would look to capitalize on the opportunities provided to her and make sure that she doesn’t allow the 21-year-old Romanian to freely play her shots and settle
into the atmosphere.
