Agnieszka Radwanska seals the eighth and final spot at Istanbul – Tennis News
Agnieszka Radwanska seals the Istanbul spot and becomes the last one to enter into the top eight tennis women who will battle it out for the year-end TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championship. She was confirmed her place following the news
of Marion Bartolli’s exit from the Moscow tournament due to viral illness.
She was extremely delighted to make it to top eight and expressed her feelings in following words “I'm so happy to finally qualify for the Championships as one of the Top 8 singles players," Radwanska commented. "Just a few weeks
ago I didn't think I had a chance of qualifying and am now so happy to end my season in Istanbul”.
World No. 8, Radwanska will fly to Istanbul next week to feature in the year-end finale and would meet the likes of Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Li Na, Vera Zvonareva and Sam Stosur. All
of these athletes are capable of clinching the title and it is expected to be one of the grand tournaments of the year.
Polish tennis ace was an alternative for this tournament in the year 2008 and 2009. 22-year-old, Radwanska, has been lucky twice; played Istanbul tournament in 2008 and 2009 but couldn’t reach the advance rounds of the tournament.
Now it’s Andrea Petkovic and Marion Bartolli who will be amongst the two alternatives for this tournament this year; both of them had chances to be amongst elite top eight tennis women but felt short of their required scenarios in the recent tournament and
enable Radwanska to confirm her place in the tournament.
This will be her third appearance in the tournament. She climbed to top eighth slot by clinching the titles at Tokyo and Beijing this year. She has been consistent performer throughout the year and regularly reached advanced rounds
of tournaments; this helped her to secure crucial points that enable her to climb up to the top eight.
The total prize money of this tournament is worth $5million and top eight elite singles and doubles would battle it out to prove their worth. Fans are eagerly waiting to see their hot-favourite tennis icons step into the Istanbul
tennis courts.
