Agnieszka Radwanska slices Greta Arn to progress into the last eight - Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2012
Pole tennis icon, Agnieszka Radwanska, ended a great run of the 33-years-old Hungarian, Greta Arn, in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix by ousting her in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. It was a brilliant start to the clay
court season for the Pole who is the registered her 27th win of the season in Stuttgart, Germany.
The fourth seed Pole took an hour and 18 minutes to finish off the resistance of the Hungarian veteran qualifier. She was seeing her counterpart for the second time in her professional career; extended the head-to-head lead to
2-0 having registered a straight sets triumph in the Zurich Open 2007 as well.
While talking to the media representative after the match, the Pole stated, “It was my first match of the year on clay and Greta already had a couple matches here, and that's always hard. It's especially hard on clay - but it was
a good match, and I'm happy how I played today."
She further commented on the different game style required in the indoor and outdoor clay courts, “They're pretty different. Indoor clay really feels much faster than outdoor clay. It's very slippery indoors, and it doesn't even
feel like there's that much clay on it - it feels more like a hard court with some clay on top of it."
On her overall performance this year, the Pole mentioned, “I'm just very happy with my season so far, since the beginning of the year.”
The match started off with a serve hold at both ends before an exchange of breakpoints took the scores to 3-2 in favour of the Pole with her counterpart serving the following game. Arn failed to hold serve for the second time in
a row and went down to a trail of 2-4. She couldn’t recover from there and lost the opening set.
An exchange of breakpoints commenced the second set that was followed up with several serve holds. Both players were closely tied at 4-4 before the Pole registered the second successful breakthrough of the set and took a lead of
5-4. A comfortably serve hold in the 10th game confirmed the win for the fourth seed.
Agnieszka Radwanska, the fourth seed Pole, will go head-to-head against the winner of the contest between the likes of eighth seed Chinese, Li Na, and the Uzbek lucky loser, Akgul Amanmuradova. Radwanska and Maria Sharapova are
the two players that confirmed their quarter-final spot in the tournament on Wednesday.
