Agnieszka Radwanska trounces Carla Suarez Navarro in the second round – US Open 2012
Second seeded Polish contender, Agnieszka Radwanska bounced over the Spanish Carla Suarez Navarro in the second round of the US Open held in the Flushing Meadows of Queen in New York, United States. Radwanska
summed her 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 against the 23-year-old and qualified for the third round of the final Grand Slam Championship of 2012.
Radwanska told the media, “The beginning of the match was a little bit tough. She's a very tough opponent with a lot of spins, some slice, and a lot of different shots. Then I started to play much better and started to make
her run, and I was feeling much better about my game later on, especially during the third set. In tennis everything can change very quickly, and especially in women's tennis the serve is not that huge of a weapon, so I was just trying to fight, play more
aggressive and never give up, especially because it's a Grand Slam.”
Ranked 39th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Navarro demonstrated an admirable performance in the opening set and clinched two of six break serves offered to her. Her game smoothly gained momentum in the set and her
scores mounted to equalize the scores to 4-all towards the end. Radwanska’s buoyancy died down after she received a break on her last serve. Eventually, Navarro stepped forward and wrapped up her surprising set win of 6-4.
The scores shifted their momentum since the start of the second set and resultantly, the Polish regained her lost energy and started to play more aggressively. Although the match scores squared down to 3-all in the middle,
Radwanska assertively nudged forward to break her rival’s serve in the same game and snatched the set with a 6-3 score line.
In the deciding set, the Spanish participant was unsuccessful to hold any of her serves. Albeit she had a decent first serve percentage of 75, Navarro converted five of 15 points on it to finish on the losing side in the
end. The Polish star, on the contrary, grabbed all the three break points offered to her. The set surely proved to be a trouble-free encounter for Radwanska as she gleefully marked her final win by a bagel.
The World number two is drawn in a match against the former world number one Serbian tennis professional, Jelena Jankovic who disposed Lara Arruabarrena Vecino in the second round, 6-4, 6-2.
