Agnieszka Radwanska will get the greatest honour of her life at London Olympics – Tennis News
World number two, Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, has acknowledged that being her country’s flag bearer at the London Olympics is the biggest honour of her life.
The 23-year-old was announced to be Poland’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony of Olympic Games. After the end of opening ceremony on the night of July 27, Radwanska will become Poland’s first sportswoman to have this honour.
Talking to media people in a recent interview, the Polish player said, “It is probably the greatest honour of my life. And, to be the first woman ever to carry the flag for my country, I really didn’t see it coming.”
This will be Radwanska’s second appearance in the biggest sports event of the world. She took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a 19-year-old, losing to the 2010 French Open champion, Francesca Schiavone of Italy, in straight
sets 3-6, 6-7(6) in the second round.
When Radwanska was asked about her preparations for the mega event, she replied, “The preparations have been great so far. I’m feeling more confident on the grass after the Wimbledon and I am also very comfortable with the surroundings
there.”
The Polish star will also take part in the doubles category with her younger sister, Urszula Radwanska, at the London Olympics. She stated that it would be the happiest event of her life if she wins a medal with her sister, who
is also her best friend.
Radwanska became the second best player in the world by reaching the title match of Wimbledon at the start of this month. She failed to capture her maiden Grand Slam but she fought bravely against one of the best female players
in the tennis history, Serena Williams.
Remembering the match, the Polish paper added, “It took me a while to settle down in the final match against Serena. It was my first final at a Grand Slam. So it took some time to getting used to the fact that I was playing in
my first final. I’m sure I’ll be better equipped next time.”
If Radwanska wins Gold Medal at the Olympics, she will also rise to the top of the world rankings.
