  1. Two reasons: Some people think you're really going to h**l if you don't get saved.  Others are shaky in their own faith and get scared themselves if they can't use the people around them to keep them from questioning.

  2. Because people for the most part can only deal with people if they can throw you into a lil self enclosed box. If you don't fit boxes "A", "B", or "C" then you may be in trouble.

That and for the most part religious people assume that most Atheists and Agnostics are either 1. lost, 2. inferior, or 3. posessed by the Devil

  3. Firstly because High School is an incubator for freakish behavior, what with all the loose hormones...

Secondly, depending on where this H.S. is, your fence-sitting ways would (in Oklahoma) or wouldn't raise an eyelash (in NYC).

  4. I don't know why it should matter. Why do you even mention it at school?

Generally you go to school to learn important things like spelling and grammar and a few other things, you don't go to school to fight over religion.

Make sure you get better grades than the people laughing at you, then you can laugh at them.

  5. Many people are insecure and look to their religion for self affirmation, by doubting the religion they feel you are doubting their worth as people, and it upsets them.  There is also the problem that if you doubt what they say about God you can also doubt what they say about others things, and nothing upsets the average Christian more than being told he's capable of making a mistake.

  6. This is ignorance. But also a reflection of culture. In some other countries, no one would care. I never heard anyone being chastized for their beliefs when I was in high school (Canada).

  7. they are trying to do a mature  thing in an immature way.  They should not ask "what is wrong with you."

However theyre main focus is to save your soul.  Do you ever wonder what will happen after you die?  It is the Christian view that you will perish in h**l for humanly sins but it can be atoned by belief in Christ.  Do not feel pressured into going to church.  Do it for you so you can ask a preacher to explain it in ways that you can understand.  Some preachers may preach to you in a way that is confusing and sometimes creepy... but theyre are many sources, and the internet is one of them.  I believe that Christianity has it right but it is up to you to make this life desision.  I hope this helped.
