Agnust Castus?

Does it really help PMS? I've tried everything from changing my diet to taking Prozac to exercise and nothing seems to help my PMS. I am taking Evening Primrose daily (1,000mg) and that seems to help my sore b*****s.

  1. Agnus Castus (also known as chaste berry) has been used for centuries to help with PMS and can be very effective.

In general, while you may notice an improvement after 1month it usually takes around 3months of continuous usage before it becomes effective.

It is available in tincture or capsule form, the tincture is generally considered better but is more expensive, the capsules are still really effective though.

The general recommendation is to take 800mg twice a day.

I use agnus castus myself and started off taking the recommended dose which was helpful, but i found the herb is only really effective if i take double the recommended dose at 1600mg twice a day.

Some people however can take the recommended dose or less and find it completely rids them of PMS - so its all about finding the level right for you.

If I were you I would continue taking Evening Primrose as well, especially as its helping.

Other herbs you may like to try for PMS in conjuction with agnus castus and primrose or on their own:

Raspberry Leaf - available in capsule, tinture and tea form

Red Clover - available in capsule, tinture and tea form

Good luck, hope things improve for you soon.
