Question:

Agree or Diagree? Is Enzo Calzaghe's fighters overhyped?

Now I remember Enzo Calzaghe was named trainer of the year by someone and I have to say no matter how he trains his fighters they are doing very poor in performance in the ring. Enzo Maccarnelli got crushed in 2 rounds by David Haye, Gavin Rees got picked apart for a 12 round TKO loss, and now with his prize fighter/son Joe Calzaghe stepping up his competetion against the crafty/rough Benard Hopkins this April. Is Enzo Calzaghe's fighters bound to be said as overhyped? Keep in mind all of them were titlelist and two were KO'd for their titles could Joe be a third and get his and his father's repretation tarnished. Andy Lee was KO'd and it sidetracked Manny Steward's forcast as Lee as the next champion. Any Answers?

  1. Ifeel Calzahge who maybe talented is out of his league against a Hopkins....Whereas B-Hops has paid dues against real contendrers and elite fighters...Joe has been spoon feed burn outs, b-level and old fighters that are primarily british(no disrespect but i'm sayin)...the only crediable fighter he's faced was Lacy and he won most impressively but they celebrate that as the career defining Lacy wa'nt tested lke B-Hops look at his resume'...i believe that Joe is Enzo greatest prodigy but yeahhhhh...they tend to be overhyped and then exposed when fighting an A+ caliber fighter

  2. I take no notice of the hype bull in the media,Ive always said Enzo and the 3 Amigoes are the most over rated boxers in the history of British boxing, esp Calzaghe! It's the British need for a hero, and it seems they'll invent one(in this case Warren to blame again!)Joe is a good British/European champion but please,he's no world class Hagler/Hopkins phenomena,it starts to embarrass me when I hear this talk, and I'm British!!In answer to your Question, yes they are, same as Amir Khan is,Audley Harrison,Frank Bruno blahblahblah,Britain will wake up April because Joe will be knocked out, probably round 8.

  3. The only one that is overhyped out of those three fighters is Enzo Maccrenelli. Who is a good fighter but probably shouldent have been rated as highly as he has been. As alot of the name fighters he has fought were past there best at the time he fought them. Having said that i still think he will regain a version of the cruiserweight title as it is generally always a weak division, and he still has a punchers chance against anyone.

I dont think Gavin Rees is overhyped as he is basically seen by the british press as a blown up super feather weight, who got lucky against an average world champion ( M, baye)who had a real off night. You never hear his name mentioned along side Hatton, Wittor or even Amir Khan despite having holded a legit world title. I in fact feel a bit sorry for him that he didnt seem to gain any respect so i couldent really say he was overhyped as such.

Joe Calzaghe has been underatted for many years and only recently is being seen for the great fighter that he is. Thats why many people think he is overrated as they have never seen him fight pre Jeff Lacy. He has beat seven world champions and never really been in trouble apart from maybe Mikkel Kessler but apart from that he has beated everyone with ease he is deserving of all the hype he gets right now.

I wouldent rate Enzo as the best trainer out there though. Hes had a good spell recently but there are better out there than him.

  4. Macca and Gavin are indeed overhyped.  As far as Calzaghe goes, I give him credit for schooling both Kessler and Lacy.  I think for his age he has amazing handspeed and can still move all over the place.  While I agree most of his competition were not so good, he chose to stay at 168 where he has beat the best opponents available.  The only person left at that weight he didn't fight that may be interesting is Anthony Mundine.  Kudos to fighting Hopkins.

  5. Depending on how Calzaghe measures up to Hopkins, we will see.  It's pretty clear Andy Lee was over hyped, and this is the first fight for Calzaghe outside of Europe, so it's going to answer some of the questions about Joe.  So far, based on what I got out of your question, Enzo's guys haven't been winning lately, that doesn't pain a positive picture.

  6. I also agree whit everyone here dat they have over hyped there fighters. I saw the Mac/haye fight and I'd have to say dude got lazy and didn't get a chance to recover due to a faster and power full hands of Hayes. I haven't seen any of calzaghe fights so I can't pass judgment but reading on him I've learned dat his father has matched him against fights he can win. Which isn't anything I'd expect a father to do in order to protect his son. Now he faces a man who is regarded as one of da most skillful and craftiest middle weights of all time. Hopkins isn't one dimensional as of da case of his last 3 fights. If u actually watch his fights u'll notice that during da first 3 rounds hes taking notes and intimidating fighters. He punches u in every area to find out were it really hurts u and sticks whit it as u saw in da winky fight. This fight will prove how much hype is or isn't over rated bout da camp  ya digg.
