Agron Dzila knocks out Peter Omondi to grab vacant WBC youth world cruiserweight gold – Boxing News
Agron Dzila, the current WBO and IBF youth cruiserweight champion, achieved a milestone of his young career when he collected an impressive ninth round knockout win over Peter Omondi, to grab the vacant WBC youth world cruiserweight gold hence becoming the
sole person in the boxing history to hold all the three apex youth divisional titles.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Tennishalle situated in Elzach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany and the event was co-promoted by Oliver Duetschler and Stjepan Herzeg of BoxKlub.
Agron, 23, was entering in his career’s 16th bout and boasted 14 wins and one loss against Roman Vanicky. The young lad has collected 10 of his total wins by knockout and is known as a lethal pound-for-pound puncher.
The bout was somewhat a one-sided sparring session with Agron possessing a hefty upper hand over his Kenyan opponent Peter. The whole bout seriously lacked the lacklustre and the charm of an exciting and energetic battle especially when Dzila was the only
one who threw jabs and Peter just strived hard to evade them.
A glance at the stats and resume of both pugilists also proves that Agron was bound to win the skirmish undoubtedly. Omondi, also 23, was entering in his career’s seventh bout and exhibited a pretty tarnished resume.
Peter was able to nail only three opponents and was undefeated as he collected draw decisions in his remaining three bouts. In addition, the fact that Peter was entering in his career’s first ever 10-round bout was also a matter to be taken into consideration
by the Kenyan proud.
Omondi has never been in a bout for more than four rounds and this was the very first time his resilience and stamina was to be tested against an opponent with a clear upper hand over him.
The bout kicked off and from the very first round the ring saw Agron throw brutal punches that pummelled Peter heavily. Omondi did nothing but kept on hugging in desperation and halted the Swiss Agron from connecting any powerful jabs.
The Kenyan’s efforts went in vain as Dzila flattened him thrice before executing and connecting a final powerful and thunderous fist that knocked out Peter’s senses so much so that he was unable to break the referee’s 10-count.
After the passage of two minutes and one second, the bou-referee halted the battle since Peter was out and he did not respond the 10-count of the ninth round. With this emphatic win, Agron has engraved his name in the history of the sport and will now be
known as the only youth pugilist who was successful in grabbing all the three divisional titles.
Dzila now has 15 wins with 11 by KO in his resume and three titles round his waist whereas the unfortunate Peter has collected his career’s first ever defeat.
