Newly-appointed RCD Espanyol coach, Javier Aguirre, has come out and said that his side will take their weekend encounter with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sevilla-FC-c40484 as a final match.
Aguirre is trying to motivate his struggling team in front of their home crowd when they face Sevilla at the Cornella-El Prat.
The tactician has a huge task in front of him as he came to coach a team that has been struggling since the start of the Primera Division this season.
The Catalan-based club is still rooted at the bottom of the table and are three points adrift of the safety zone.
The Mexican coach has revealed that his side will treat the clash with the Andalusians as a final.
“The players will treat it as a final. We must be strong at home because surviving relegation will come at Cornella-El Prat.”
The former Atletico Madrid boss has also urged his players to show strong performance at home so that the Espanyol faithful can watch an entertaining football game and enjoy themselves.
“What we have to do is show that we can play well, so as to convey joy and effort towards the fans.”
Moreover, Aguirre has acknowledged that Sevilla will not give them an easy task as they also want to come away with a positive result.
However, he feels the team with the stronger willpower will come on top when the two sides face off each other.
“It is an important game for both teams, too, because Sevilla also have needs like us. The pressure in the match will be equal and we will have to see which side has the more mental strength, the better balance and that makes the fewest mistakes.”
Finally, there have been some reports saying that Aguirre will bring in some reinforcement when the transfer window opens in January. However, Los Pericos boss stated that he hasn’t thought about that yet.
“I have been here just a week and I have not yet thought about sales and purchases.”
