  1. You need nerves to give a great performance. If you were not nervous you would lose that edge. You don't want calm, the nervous adrenalin will sharpen your  performance.

  2. Be yourself..

Just think of it as a good experience.. don't expect to be the best all the time.

    Confidence, and just smile!

  3. just have fun with it! I breath a lot and just pretend im at practice. Try skating what ever you are skating along on the ice before the comp! Good luck!

  4. If you make a mistake, just keep going!  It means a lot more if a skater makes a mistake and keeps going like it never happened than if the skater is visibly upset or mad...it effects the whole rest of the program!

Just keep reviewing your program in your head and in your head, skate the "perfect" program.  Show all the spectators and judges how much you love to skate.  If you have an iPod or MP3 player, a lot of skaters relax by listening to their program music before they compete and visualizing skating a clean program.

My advice is to never go into a competition expecting to get 1st place.  Go into it thinking, "I'm going to do the best that I can."  From experience, it seems that skaters set themselves up for disappointment and if they don't get 1st place, it means they didn't do a good job.  Aim for your personal best because if you are proud of your performance, there's no way they can take that away from you.  You never know who is going to be skating, who will scratch and what tricks anybody's got up their sleeve.  Sometimes skating your best feels better than any medal or plastic trophy!  :)

Smile and concentrate on entertaining the crowd.  Feel your music and display the emotion of your music.  Judges seem to like a little showmanship.

On your warm up, start with the element you're most worried about and work backwards.  That way if you never get to the things that are consistent on your warmup, you got a chance to warmup what isn't.

Most of all, BREATHE!!!!   Take a deep breath, breathe through your program and take it one element at a time.

    Good luck!  :)

  5. well if your a guy, stick your hands into your pockets and squeeze your  balls as tight as you can. If you are a girl, grab your b***s. These methods do work and m********e before your program.

  6. pop down to your local healthstore; i.e; Holland and Barrett, and pick up some Bachs Rescue Remedy....start taking it now, and continue right up till your competition. ts completely safe, non-addictive, but will help to calm and relax you. good luck!!

  7. well, i was nervous too when i first competed. the only thing i can say is close your eyes and listen to your music and imagine the perfect program. then when you get on the ice smile and be yourself, and if you mess up keep on going and smile like it never happened. :D
